Summer base makeup has been feeling like too much lately. Between sweat, sunscreen, and stronger UV, my skin gets sensitive faster than usual, so I’ve been reaching for lighter no-foundation base products instead of a full foundation routine.
Goodal is one of those brands I connect with heartleaf calming products, so this Sun BB caught my attention right away. It had the things I wanted for summer: SPF, a calmer feel, and enough coverage to make my skin look a little more even. I bought it myself and used it for about a week before writing this.
Olive Young Price and Set
I bought mine at Olive Young for ₩22,000. The set came with the full-size 50ml tube plus a 25ml mini, so it was 75ml total. For a base product with SPF, that felt like a pretty good deal, especially because the mini size is actually useful for a pouch or travel bag.
I wouldn’t assume this exact set will always be available, because Olive Young promotions change often. But if you see the 50ml + 25ml version around this price, I think it’s a nice time to try it without committing to only one full-size tube.
What Kind of Sun BB This Is
This is part of Goodal’s heartleaf line, and it has SPF50+ PA++++. The shade I bought is Neutral Beige, and the finish is meant to lightly even out the skin tone while still working as sun protection.
Heartleaf is often used in Korean skincare for skin that feels easily irritated or trouble-prone, so the concept made sense for summer. I still treat this as base makeup, not a treatment product, but I liked that it didn’t feel like a heavy color product sitting on top of already-sensitive skin.
The product is also made with acne-prone and very sensitive skin in mind. My skin isn’t extremely sensitive every day, but heat, sunscreen, and sweat can make it feel reactive in summer.
On my skin, this felt comfortable. I didn’t get that prickly or tight feeling I sometimes get from base products with stronger coverage, and it covered small marks better than I expected for something that still felt pretty light.
Calming Ingredients, But Still Makeup
The formula also mentions panthenol and calamine, both ingredients I associate with calming and moisture support. On my skin, the gentle feel was the part I noticed most while applying it.
Goodal says the formula contains 71% skincare ingredients. A percentage alone doesn’t sell me on a base product, but the texture did feel less burdensome than a typical BB cream. It gave me more of a calming, moisturizing base feeling than a thick makeup layer.
Texture, Finish, and Shade
I tested a small amount on the back of my hand first. The texture is semi-matte and a little thicker than I expected. Not dry in a bad way, but it has more grip than a dewy tone-up cream.
Because of that, I think it will suit oily or combination skin better than very dry skin. My skin has more oil than dryness, especially in summer, so the semi-matte finish worked for me. If your skin is dry, I would definitely moisturize well before using it.
Even though the formula has some thickness, it still spreads well. I usually apply base products with my hands when I’m in a hurry, and this one didn’t pill or bunch up even when I blended it pretty casually with my fingers.
While applying, I did notice a slight grayish cast. That made me pause for a second, because BB creams can sometimes look a little flat before they settle.
Once it was fully blended, the gray cast disappeared on me and the finish looked much more natural. It brightened my skin by about one tone without looking too white, which is exactly what I want from a no-foundation summer base.
I’ve been using it for about a week, and I didn’t notice obvious darkening by nighttime. The one-shade situation is still the biggest caveat. On my skin, which is on the slightly deeper side with visible pores and oiliness, it worked as a natural tone-up. If your skin is much lighter, I think you may see it more as a coverage product than a tone-up product.
Coverage Test
For coverage, I drew eyebrow pencil and lip liner on my hand. This is more intense than normal blemishes or redness, but it makes the coverage level easier to see.
I was worried it would barely cover the darker lines, but a small amount covered more than I expected. The deepest strokes were still visible, but the softer marks were blurred down nicely.
That is pretty close to how it works on my face too. It doesn’t erase everything like a full foundation, but it evens out the skin enough that I can skip foundation and still feel presentable. For small blemishes, mild redness, and uneven tone, the coverage is genuinely useful.
I think this fits oily or combination skin best, especially if you want a calming-feeling base with SPF and natural coverage. If your skin is dry, prep with moisturizer first. It isn’t a glass-skin base. But for summer, sweat, and a cleaner no-foundation routine, I can see myself finishing the tube.
