Beplain Mung Bean Cleansing Foam Review: Gentle Morning Cleanser

My skin tends to wake up oily on the surface, but it can still feel dry if I wash with something too strong. Just splashing water on my face in the morning doesn’t feel like enough, so I wanted a cleanser that sits somewhere in the middle.

That’s why I bought the Beplain Mung Bean pH-Balanced Cleansing Foam. I wanted something gentle enough for morning cleansing, but still useful when my T-zone feels oily.

Buying It at Olive Young

I bought the Olive Young set with the 160ml full-size tube and a 40ml travel-size tube for ₩21,900. For a cleanser, I liked that the mini came attached because this is the kind of product I actually use up, not something that sits around for months.

Amazon also carries the same Beplain Mung Bean pH-Balanced Cleansing Foam. When I checked, the single tube was around $34, so Olive Young was definitely better value for me in Korea. If you’re ordering from outside Korea, you can check the current Amazon listing here: Buy on Amazon.

What Kind of Cleanser It Is

Beplain Mung Bean Cleansing Foam is a pH-balanced cleanser for daily cleansing, especially when you want to wash away light sebum, pore buildup, and general residue without using something too harsh.

I wouldn’t treat this as a one-step cleanser for heavy makeup. It feels more suited to morning cleansing, sunscreen-only days, or a second cleanse after using an oil cleanser or remover first.

Mung Bean and pH-Balanced Formula

The main ingredients the brand highlights are mung bean extract and mung bean powder. In Korean skincare, mung bean often shows up in products aimed at sebum and pore care, so it fits the purpose of a cleansing foam like this.

What I liked is that it doesn’t feel like a scrub cleanser. Even though the texture has tiny visible particles, it still feels more like a creamy foam cleanser than a physical exfoliator.

The pH-balanced part was one of the reasons I bought it. The cleanser is marketed around pH 5.5, which is close to the skin’s natural acidic environment, so it sounded like a better fit for daily use than a cleanser that leaves my skin feeling squeaky.

For morning cleansing, that matters to me. I want my skin to feel clean, but I don’t want that tight feeling where I immediately need toner and cream just to calm everything down.

Beplain Mung Bean Cleansing Foam tube and 40ml mini tube

This is exactly the gap I wanted it to fill. On oily-dehydrated skin, morning cleansing can be hard to choose: if the cleanser is too mild, the oil around my nose still feels like it’s there; if it is too strong, my cheeks feel dry before skincare even starts.

With this one, the balance was close to what I wanted. It cleaned the surface oil enough for morning use, but it didn’t leave my skin feeling overly stripped.

Texture, Scent, and Foam

Thick cream texture of Beplain Mung Bean Cleansing Foam squeezed onto the back of a hand

The texture surprised me at first. I expected something softer or more gel-like, but it comes out quite thick. I have to press the tube a little instead of lightly squeezing it and getting product right away.

It’s not difficult to use, but if you’re expecting a runny gel foam, the first squeeze may feel a bit different.

Beplain Mung Bean Cleansing Foam spread on the back of a hand before adding water

Before adding water, it spreads like a thick cream. The scent is not a strong artificial fragrance, but I do notice a mild nutty mung bean smell.

I personally didn’t mind it because it feels more earthy than perfumey, but if you’re very sensitive to scents, I would test it first at Olive Young if you can.

Up close, the texture has tiny specks from the mung bean powder. They are visible, but they didn’t feel rough on my hand or face.

I still wouldn’t use this like a scrub or rub it in aggressively. It works better when I add water, foam it up properly, and massage it lightly.

Once I added water, the foam came up more easily than I expected. It isn’t the super dense, elastic kind of foam that feels like shaving cream, but it becomes soft and airy enough to cleanse comfortably.

After rinsing, my skin felt clean without that overly polished, squeaky finish. For an everyday morning cleanser, that was actually the part I liked most.

Makeup Removal Test

I also tested it on the back of my hand with lip pencil, eyebrow pencil, and mascara. I chose a few different textures because I wanted to see how much a regular cleansing foam could handle, not just how it worked on an easy base product.

After cleansing, the lip and brow marks were mostly gone, but the mascara still left visible residue even after I rubbed a bit harder. That confirmed how I would use this in real life.

For days when I only wear sunscreen or light base makeup, this feels like a practical cleanser. For waterproof mascara, eyeliner, or heavier point makeup, I would use a proper remover first and then follow with this foam.

Overall, Beplain Mung Bean Cleansing Foam fits best as a gentle daily cleanser for oily-dehydrated or combination skin. It gives me enough cleansing for the morning without making my skin feel dry, and the slightly thick, creamy texture makes it feel more comforting than I expected.
